Kristeva expounds a radical Freudianism that disdains the American model and fosters permanent revolt in the sense of revolution, re-turning, or self-creation. Writing, translating, and questioning internal and external unity and difference are some of the themes she presents in moving toward a "transformation of our culture, another relationship toward meaning." The last three chapters on psychoanalysis, language, and Europe were first presented as lectures and might serve as a starting point for newcomers to Kristeva's challenging intellect, passion, and often daunting material.
