The author knows the subject material and writes in a very clear easy to understand manner. There are many examples, ie case law, that are used for additional research. Very good information and a great price.
I haven't read the entire book yet, only sections, but this appears to be an excellent introduction to the U.S. Constitution - the document itself, a discussion of what it means, how it has been interpreted over the years, and a thoughtful, engaging discussion of the issues that have arisen and may arise in the future. It is well-organized, easy to read and gets the reader thinking so that he or she participates in a critical evaluation of the subject material. This is no dry textbook of nothing but facts and statistics that puts you to sleep; it's how a history/political science book ought to be written because it gets you to use your brain for more than memorization.This is a worthwhile read; all U.S. citizens should be aware of the tenets of the one of the greatest documents ever written that is supposed to define how our country operates. There is far too much misinformation out there - cut out the middleman and go to the source. That said, one has to compare the language of the Constitution versus what Mr. Arnheim writes about it and then draw your own conclusions. I find he tries to present a balanced viewpoint and makes the reader aware of the issues. It's a good book.

To truly understand the Constitution, you have to read the articles and amendments to see what is actually said.This book is an excellent overview of the Constitution and includes the text of the document. It also offers insights into what is believed to have been the reason for each section as written by the framers.Excellent for catching up on the Constitution if you've been away from it for a while, or to learn the basics of the actual document I, like my wife, you really don't know what it says.
This is a really well done book covering the US Constitution, the articles, amendments & how they came to be. It is up-to-date with explanations of rulings on Obamacare, same sex marriage, etc. There is history, evolution & possible Constitutional issues for the future.The book is written in the easy-to-read & well organized style that Dummies books are know for.
I really like this book. I was a poli-sci major in college and wanted to brush up on my knowledge of the constitution, especially seeing what’s going on in our country. The information in this book is well presented and easy to follow. It’s exactly what I was looking for.
Arnheim's book is written for the non-specialist (as are all books in the For Dummies series) but it is very thorough. He covers almost every aspect that a general reader could be expected to want to know about the U.S. Constitution and how the three branches of the U.S. federal government operate. Arnheim anticipates commonly asked questions or points of confusion and answers them in an approachable but intelligent manner that avoids jargon. The prose is readable, informed and funny. Arnheim is opinionated but very explicitly mentions where he is giving his opinion and does not expect the reader to necessarily agree with him. Ultimately, his approach is even-handed. There are considerable graphics in the book that add to the reader's understanding. I refreshed my knowledge and learned new things (substantive due process, incorporation, etc.). As a history/civics teacher, I would highly recommend this book to my colleagues in the field.
